Arriving
in the Rocky Mountain state of Utah, Clive spent seven years in the USA
where he entertained at concerts, corporate events, and on television.
He toured the Western states with with a variety troupe performing at high
schools, church halls, and on Indian reservations. He
also made his Western movie debut in Blue with Karl Malden and played Hollywood's
famous Magic Castle nightclub. Clive turned aside offers of further work
in Hollywood and Las Vegas to return to university
where he earned two degrees including a master's in television at Syracuse
University, New York. In Syracuse, he produced a TV magic special,
The Vanishing Art, which was shown on PBS. He also promoted Sesame
Street and Masterpiece Theatre while working for PBS and helped introduce Mark
Russell and the Monty Python series to the PBS program lineup. While
studying at Syracuse, Clive was approached by Gene Gordon, co-founder of
the International Brotherhood of Magicians, to give his first lecture in
Buffalo. This experience was to eventually set him on a new career path
in Canada.
